[BIOGRAPHY]

Chris was born and raised in the Greater Los Angeles area. His first musical experience was at the age of four when his mother forced him to take piano lessons. At the age of 11, he found his father`s old guitar in the garage and decided to switch to guitar. Chris' first influences were rock music and then later went on to heavy metal music during middle school.

When Chris entered High School at the Hamilton High School Music Academy he started to play jazz guitar in the jazz bands. Being part of an award winning high school jazz band directed by Dan Taguchi, he had the opportunity to perform in many local venues.

At the time he was studying guitar with Jinshi Ozaki.

After graduating High School, Chris was awarded a Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he studied guitar with Joe Rogers among others and dual majored in Jazz Composition and Contemporary Writing and Production. He met many great teachers and young musicians at Berklee. In 2005 Chris was recognized by the International Association of Jazz Educators in winning the Robert Ayasse Memorial Jazz Ensemble Composition Contest. He also participated in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop in New York directed by Jim McNeely and Michael Abene.
